Placentia, California

    Placentia, pronounced “Pla-cent-cha”, is a sleepy city in Northern Orange County, neighboring Yorba Linda, Fullerton and Brea. The population is about 50,000 people and stays relatively consistent through the day as it is mostly residential. The City of Placentia has made a concerted effort to keep Placentia as a safe and family-oriented city with superior public services to promote the highest standards of a quality life.

    Once called the “All American City”, Placentia is still that. There are annual events and city parades that travel through the streets on holidays, with the school’s marching bands and clubs marching. The George Key Ranch Historic District is a historic citrus ranch and Victorian ranch house in Placentia. It’s on the National Register of Historic Places and has a historic house museum, outdoor displays and a citrus grove.

    The Placentia-Santa Fe District is in the southwest or downtown area and boasts some of the best Mexican restaurants in the area. The city has started a Metrolink project that will assist in the continued revitalization of the area, which will involve more retail and entertainment spaces. The Metrolink 91 passes through the southern portion of the city and the city has been preparing for a new station. The roadways are all being updated and expected to be completed by 2017.

    There are three high schools in Placentia: El Dorado, Valencia, and El Camino Real High School (Model Continuation School). Parkview School provides independent study K-12 school for students who are “homeschooled”. The Middle Schools are Tuffree, Kraemer and Valdez.  There are numerous public elementary schools such as: Brookhaven, George Key, Golden, Morse, Melrose, Ruby, Sierra Vista, Tynes, Van Buren and Wagner. Among the top Elementary schools with the highest Great School Ratings of 9 and 10 are Golden, Brookhaven, Van Buren, Charles Wagner, Sierra Vista and Parkview.  All public schools are under the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District.
